Legal Requirements

Legal requirements

The Illawarra Air Rifle Club has accredited officials licensed to conduct firearms safety training and tests. These are conducted by our club officials on an individual basis.

Licenced visitors

Shooters with a class A or B firearms licence can shoot without completing a P650 form. Attendance at the range can also be documented for the attendance requirements of your firearms licence.

Beginners

Beginners are permitted to shoot without a Firearms Licence, but they must complete a Firearms P650 Form available at the Clubhouse or linked here –P650 Form,. This form has check boxes where you confirm that you are of good character. A photo ID card, such as a driver’s licence, is required to establish your identity / age. You will be given a Firearms Safety talk before you shoot.

A P650 form allows you to shoot as an unlicenced visitor up to 6 times. After this you will be encouraged to apply for your Firearms Licence or Minors Permit. Bookings are required. To make a booking please email the club: schuetzenklub@gmail.com.

Juniors

Children (12 – 18 years of age) intending to shoot must be accompanied by parent/guardian who have their photo ID with them, (this can be Driver’s Licence or Passport).

Rifle

The target air rifle weighs about 5 kg and fires a single .177 lead pellet. There is hardly any recoil from this small calibre firearm. As with all forms of target shooting, the safety rules are strictly enforced.
